Painting a portrait from life is one of the most challenging yet rewarding skills for an artist. Mastering this skill will serve to strengthen painting skills in all other genres.
In this 6 week class, we will learn how to paint a portrait from life, learning such skills as blocking in the portrait, dimensions and proportions of the head, looking for light and shadow shapes, modeling three-dimensional form, and getting a likeness. Since it will be from life, you will have the opportunity to experience drawing the profile, ¾, and front view of the portrait.
Demos and instruction will be given at each class and then the student will be given time to paint from the model using the acquired skills.

NOTE: Some experience drawing and painting from life is recommended but not required.
